Jetta $10,000 Off Flash Sale: A Guilt-free Gilt Deal

The Gilt sample sale site is offering $10,000 off a Volkswagen Jetta starting tomorrow (Dec. 15) in a first-ever auto flash sale.
Three brand new 2011 Jettas will be offered to members at $5,995, (63% off the list price of $15,995) over a period of three days – starting at noon ET.
The privately held company usually offers its invite-only members Gilt Groupe Shopping Events, typically fashion-centric and designer-specific and held for a 36-hour period. Or as the New York Times puts it, "People with a taste for high-end fashion items at deep discounts have turned Gilt into a guiltless addiction."
On the first day of the Jetta sale, the offer will only be available on Gilt’s mobile apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices — the raison d’ĂȘtre behind the stunt being to promote their mobile apps. It's also being promoted on Twitter and Facebook.
On Thursday and Friday, the sale will be open online as well. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the Dress for Success charity.
Members who don’t score one of the three Jettas can add it to a “Wait List” and receive a “special incentive” — presumably a lesser discount — redeemable at participating Volkswagen dealerships in the future.
According to Mashable, this will most likely be a one-off sale for Gilt, as neither Volkswagen nor Gilt will receive any profit other then earned media.
Sounds like well-earned, high-end media and big-ticket marketing that would make any Santa proud.
